Coolmore went to $2.6 million to secure the bid on a Kentucky-bred colt by Nyquist on March 31 at the Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream Sale in Hallandale Beach, Fla. The sale-topping colt was bred in the Bluegrass by G. Watts Humphrey Jr.

Produced from the Smart Strike mare Spinning Wheel and hailing from the family of Classic-placed Ride On Curlin and Test S. (G1) winner Victory Ride, the colt was consigned by Wavertree Stables, agent. He was bought as a yearling for $160,000 by Redwings from the Lane’s End consignment at the Fasig-Tipton Selected Yearlings Showcase in 2020. Bloodstock agent Jamie McCalmont signed the ticket for the colt who breezed the fastest eighth-mile at the under tack preview at Gulfstream, getting the distance in :9 4/5. McCalmont indicated that the horse is being sent to Bob Baffert to train.

The second-highest priced juvenile of the sale, Needmore Guns, sold to Gary Young, agent, for $1.7 million. The Kentucky-bred chestnut colt is from the first crop of Horse of the Year Gun Runner. Consigned by Hartley/ de Renzo Thoroughbreds, the colt is produced from the multiple stakes-winning Flatter mare Needmore Flattery and he was bred by Bruce Ryan.

Coolmore also went to $1.3 million for a full brother to Grade 1 winner Dream Tree by Uncle Mo. Bred in Kentucky by Mike and Pat Freeny, the colt is out of the Afleet Alex mare Afleet Maggi and was previously purchased as a yearling for $335,000 by Knights Bloodstock at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale where he was consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency. Consigned by Wavertree Stables, the colt will be trained by Todd Pletcher.
