Undefeated Kentucky-bred Flightline, who enjoyed a brief but remarkable racing career, was named the 2022 Horse of the Year on Thursday, Jan. 26 during the 52nd annual Eclipse Awards in Palm Beach, Florida.

From his record-breaking win in the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) at Keeneland to his romping Pacific Classic (G1) triumph, Flightline captivated racing fans everywhere. In addition to his Eclipse Award as Horse of the Year, Flightline was also celebrated earlier this month as the Longines World’s Best Racehorse. Flightline’s Horse of the Year title is a deserving reflection of his outstanding achievements.

Owned by Hronis Racing LLC, Siena Farm LLC, Summer Wind Equine LLC, West Point Thoroughbreds, and Woodford Racing LLC, and trained by John Sadler, Flightline received 239 out of a possible 246 first-place votes for Horse of the Year.

A 4-year-old son of Tapit out of Feathered, by Indian Charlie, Flightline, who was bred in the Bluegrass by Summer Wind Farm, won the Metropolitan Handicap (G1) at Belmont Park, The Pacific Classic (G1) at Del Mar by an astounding 19 ¼ lengths, and capped off his career winning the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) by a stakes-record 8 ¼ lengths. He retired undefeated in six lifetime starts. He will be remembered as one of the greatest racehorses of all time.

The Eclipse Awards are voted on by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA), Daily Racing Form, and the National Turf Writers and Broadcasters (NTWAB). Eclipse Awards are bestowed upon the Thoroughbred horses and individuals whose outstanding achievements have earned them the title of champion in their respective divisions and are name after the great 18th-Century racehorse and foundation sire, Eclipse.
