Twelve of the 14 fillies running for the lilies in the $1.25 million Kentucky Oaks (G1) on Friday, May 5, are bred in Kentucky, led by Wet Paint, who tops all Oaks entrants with 170 points on the Road to the Kentucky Oaks Leaderboard.

A homebred for Godolphin trained by Brad Cox, Wet Paint is undefeated in her three starts this season, winning the Fantasy Stakes (G3), the Honeybee Stakes (G3), and the Martha Washington Stakes, all at Oaklawn Park. By Blame out of the Street Cry (IRE) mare Sky Painter, Wet Paint is a winner in four of six lifetime starts and has banked just shy of $700,000 in her career heading into the Oaks. Jockey Flavien Prat, who has been aboard her for all three victories this season, and returns in the irons.

Wet Paint is one of two Godolphin homebreds in the Oaks. The operation will also send out Pretty Mischievous, winner of the Rachel Alexandra Stakes (G2) at Fair Grounds in February and most recently runner-up in the Fair Grounds Oaks (G2) for trainer Brendan Walsh. Pretty Mischievous is a daughter of Into Mischief out of the Tapit mare Pretty City Dancer.

The Oaks field also features Affirmative Lady, who enters the Oaks with 110 points. Owned by AMO Racing USA and trained by H. Graham Motion, Affirmative Lady captured the Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2) in her last start after breaking her maiden in February. Bred in Kentucky by Alastar Thoroughbred Co. LLC, Affirmative Lady is a daughter of Arrogate out of the Stephen Got Even mare Stiffed. All told, she is a winner in two of six starts and has earned $270,568.

Defining Purpose is the third-ranked Kentucky-bred Oaks contender with 107 points. Campaigned by Magdalena Racing, Colette Marie VanMatre, and James Ball and conditioned by Ken McPeek, Defining Purpose won the Ashland Stakes (G1) in her most recent outing. The gray or roan filly is a daughter of Cross Traffic out of the Strong Hope mare Defining Hope. She has won three of seven outings thus far and has banked $543,688.

Last year’s Eclipse Champion 2-Year-Old Filly Wonder Wheel has yet to reproduce her juvenile form this year at three for trainer Mark Casse but figures to have a say in the outcome if she rediscovers her best stride. Owned by D J Stable, Wonder Wheel is a daughter of Into Mischief and she was bred in Kentucky by Three Chimneys Farm and Clearsky Farm.
