sGodolphin’s Kentucky homebred Immersive collared favored Quietside in the stretch to score an impressive victory in the 133rd renewal of the $300,000 Spinaway Stakes (G1) for 2-year-old fillies at Saratoga on Saturday, Aug. 31.
Ridden by Manuel Franco, Immersive was taken in hand early in the seven-furlong test. She raced in fifth down the backstretch, chasing the leading quartet. She angled out into the six- path turning for home and got on terms with Quietside in deep stretch. In a strong drive, she drove past Quietside in the final sixteenth to score by 1 ¼ lengths in the end over a track labeled muddy (sealed). She stopped the clock in 1:25.31.
An undefeated daughter of Nyquist, Immersive is produced from the Bernardini mare Gap Year. Making just her second career start, Immersive is now an earner of $220,000. She is trained by Brad Cox.
Talent from the Start
“I love her even more now. She is good, she really is,” said Cox. “She kind of stamped herself as being good from day one and he showed at Keeneland that she had some talent. We moved her over to Churchill, we thought she was a Saratoga filly for a while. She came up here and ran a big race first time out. I thought she galloped out huge that day, and always thought she’d stretch out—most often Godolphin horses do with their pedigrees. They breed two-turn horses. I think she’ll handle the two turns when she gets the opportunity.
“She is lightly raced. It is hard to say what she wants to do and what she is going to like,” added Cox. “She is a really good, smooth mover, great stride, so I was hoping she would handle it, and she did.”
Cox indicated that the next target for Immersive could be the Alcibiades Stakes (G1) at Keeneland on Oct. 4.
