Kentucky-bred Carson’s Run rallied from last place in a field of nine to take down top prize in the $500,000 Summer Stakes (G1) at Woodbine on Saturday, Sept. 16. With the victory, Carson’s Run earned a berth in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) in November.

Ridden by Dylan Davis, Carson’s Run was reserved in the early going, biding his time in last to the far turn of the one-mile fixture. Guided outside approaching the five-sixteenths, he angled wide into the stretch. He struck the front in mid-stretch and kicked clear late to score by 2 ¼ lengths. He covered the distance in 1:35.70.

Owned by West Point Thoroughbreds and Steven Bouchey, Carson’s Run is trained by Christophe Clement. Bred in Kentucky by Frankfort Pike Farm, Carson’s Run sold for $170,000 at the 2023 OBS Spring Sale where he was consigned by Randy Miles.

“He did very well there because he saved all the ground he could and then when he angled him at the quarter pole, we had to come wide obviously, but that way you don’t get any traffic,” said Christophe Lorieul, assistant to trainer Christophe Clement. “He had a clear run from the quarter-pole to the wire and he really showed what he is today.”

Carson’s Run is by Cupid out of the Henny Hughes mare Hot N Hectic. A winner in two of three starts and second in the With Anticipation S. (G2) at Saratoga, Carson’s Run has banked $314,529 in his career.
