George Krikorian’s Kentucky homebred Just F Y I is set to make her highly anticipated seasonal debut in the Davona Dale S. (G2) at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, March 2.

The undefeated champion, who has been training steadily for trainer Bill Mott at Payson Park, closed out her championship season with a determined score in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) at Santa Anita last November.”

“We’re hoping that she’s got enough in her to get started,” said Mott. “You have to start somewhere. She’s done well. Some that look at her think that she’s probably grown a little bit. I see her every day, so I don’t see it as much. But she seems to be doing well. Her works have been quite good.”

Despite not being favored in any of her three starts last year at two, Just F Y I broke her maiden at Saratoga. She stepped up and stretched out to a mile in the Frizette S. (G1) and romped by 3 ¾ lengths prior to her game win in the Breeders’ Cup.

Mott hopes to use her time in South Florida as a springboard to the Kentucky Oaks (G1) on May 3. Junior Alvarado has been aboard Just F Y I in all three of her career starts. He gets the return call in the Davona Dale where Just F Y I drew post position No. 3. The daughter of Justify is out of the stakes-placed Street Cry (IRE) mare Star Act. Just F Y I currently has 40 qualifying points on the Road to the Kentucky Oaks leaderboard, trailing only Lemon Muffin, Tarifa, and Manama Gold.

“There’s going to be some tough races down the road,” Mott said. “You’re hoping the first one is not the toughest one.”
