Kentucky-bred City of Troy was named Cartier Horse of the Year and 3-Year-Old Colt of the Year on Wednesday, Nov. 20. The accomplished son of Justify racked up three Group 1 wins in 2024. He won the historic Epsom Derby (G1), the Juddmonte International S. (G1), and the Eclipse S. (G1) for Mrs. John Magnier, Derrick Smith, and Michael Tabor. Trained by Aiden O’Brien, he was bred in Kentucky by Orpendale/Chelston/Wynatt.
As a 2-year-old last year, City of Troy burst on the scene with a win in the Dewhurst S. (G1) at Newmarket. He also annexed the Superlative S. (G2) while winning the first three starts of his stellar racing career. At season’s end, he was named European Champion 2-Year-Old Colt. The newly-minted Cartier Horse of the Year is by undefeated Triple Crown winner Justify out of the Group 1-winning Galileo (IRE) mare Together Forever (IRE). All told, City of Troy banked $3,098,555.
