Kentucky-breds City of Troy and Opera Singer have been recognized as the leading juveniles in Europe for 2023, it was announced on Tuesday, Jan. 23. Both horses are trained by Aidan O’Brien, and both are offspring of undefeated Triple Crown winner Justify. He is the first stallion to sire both the colt and filly champions since Danehill in 2005.

A Coolmore runner, City of Troy was unbeaten in three starts at two. His season culminated with a dominant victory in the Dewhurst S. (G1) at Newmarket. On the strength of that scintillating win, City of Troy earned a rating of 125, five pounds clear of the next best juvenile. City of Troy races for Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor, and Derrick Smith. He was bred in Kentucky by Orpendale/Cheston/Wynatt.

Opera Singer ranked highest of all juvenile fillies in 2023 with a rating of 118. An emphatic winner of the Prix Marcel Boussac (G1) in France, Opera Singer is owned by Tabor, Smith, Magnier, and Westerberg and was bred in Kentucky by Elvie Stockwell. Opera Singer won three of five starts at two. She is a half-sister to Hit It a Bomb and Brave Anna.
