Kentucky-breds shined on Future Stars Friday at the Breeders’ Cup with Immersive winning the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) and Citizen Bull capturing the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) at Del Mar.

Godolphin’s favored Immersive remained undefeated, sweeping past Vodka With a Twist and Scottish Lassie in mid-stretch to post a 4 ½-length victory in the Juvenile Fillies. Trained by Brad Cox and ridden by Manny Franco, Immersive completed the 1 1/16 miles on a fast track in 1:44.36. It was the 11th Breeders’ Cup victory for Cox. A homebred daughter of Nyquist out of the Bernardini mare Gap Year, Immersive has won all four of her starts and the win increased her bankroll to $1,632,700.

“Obviously, they were rolling pretty quick up front and Manny did a great job putting her in a great position,” said Cox. “She broke well. Showed her stamina and ability to handle two turns. I think the further the better. She’s a very good filly and showed it today. That was a huge performance.”

Franco said of the win, “I was pretty happy [with the pace]. I know the pace was cooking in front. She was there for me, and she responded pretty well. She’s a grinder. She doesn’t have a big turn of foot and she’s a grinder, but at the same time, I fell like I’m going to get there. It means a lot. These are the races we dream of and that’s what we’re here for.”

Citizen Bull Uncatchable in Juvenile

SF Racing, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables, et al’s Kentucky-bred Citizen Bull led stablemate Gaming all the way around to win the Juvenile by 1 ½ lengths. Trained by Bob Baffert and ridden by Martin Garcia, Citizen Bull covered the 1 1/16 miles in 1:43.07. The victory was the 19th for Baffert in the Breeders’ Cup and sixth in the Juvenile. The complexion of the race changed at the start as favored East Avenue, a Kentucky homebred for Godolphin, stumbled at the break and was never a factor. As a result, Citizen Bull led the procession from start to finish.

Bred in Kentucky by Robert and Lawana Low, Citizen Bull is a son of Into Mischief out of the Distorted Humor No Joke. The win, the third in four starts and second Grade 1 for Citizen Bull, increased his lifetime bankroll to $1,301,000.

“In order to win these races, you need a good horse,” said Baffert. “And you have to have the right trip, the right luck.”

Garcia added of the win, “My horse was just running easy early and the other horse (Gaming) was just cruising in second. When it was time to go, the horse just took off.”
