Zedan Racing Stables’ Kentucky-bred Muth made short work of his rivals in the $300,000 American Pharoah S. (G1) at Santa Anita on Saturday, Oct. 7, winning the 1 1/16-mile fixture by 3 ¾ lengths. The win provides Muth with a fees-paid berth in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) at Santa Anita on Nov. 4.

A well-beaten second to Prince of Monaco in the Best Pal S. (G3) on Aug. 13 following a dazzling 8 ¾-length in his career debut in June, Muth is back on track ahead of the Breeders’ Cup. Ridden by Juan Hernandez, Muth stalked the leader from fourth in the early going of the American Pharoah. He tipped out and challenged from the outside with a quarter mile left to run, took over in the stretch, and won going away as much the best. The bay colt is trained by Bob Baffert.

“He surprised me the way he relaxed today because he is normally a really aggressive horse,” said winning rider Juan Hernandez. “Out of the gate he’s fast. Bob and his team have been working with him trying to get him to relax. Today, I think it paid off because he relaxed really well, and he was traveling really well. I think this is the best horse I’ve ever ridden so far. I mean Cave Rock was one of the best but this one is pretty close. Hopefully, we can stay healthy, and we can get him in the Breeders’ Cup.”

By Good Magic out of the Uncle Mo mare Hoppa, Muth was bred in Kentucky by Don Alberto Corporation. He was a $2 million graduate of the OBS March Sale, where he was acquired by Donato Lanni, agent for Zedan Racing Stables out of the Top Line Sales consignment.
