Kentucky-bred Society made short work of a competitive group in the $1 million Cotillion Stakes (G1) at PARX on Saturday, Sept. 24, registering an impressive front-running score in the 1 1/16-mile event for owner-breeder Peter Blum Thoroughbreds.
Ridden by Florent Geroux, Society broke alertly and easily moved clear of he rivals in the early stages. She widened her advantage around the far turn with little urging from Geroux and cruised home under a brisk hand ride to score by 5 ¾ lengths at the finish. With Morning Matcha finishing second and Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Secret Oath in third, Society stopped the timer in 1:42.94.
Trained by Steve Asmussen, Society became a millionaire with the Cotillion victory and now boasts earnings of more than $1.1 million. The daughter of Gun Runner is a winner in five of six lifetime starts. Prior to the Cotillion, Society captured the Charles Town Oaks (G3) in August and was fourth behind Nest in the Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) at Saratoga. She also annexed the Monomoy Girl Stakes at Churchill Downs in June.
A homebred for Peter Blum Thoroughbreds, Society is out of the Tapit mare Etiquette, a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Pleasant Prince.
